1 John
Chapter 4
(369) 1. Beloved, of the spirits, as many as there are, do not think that everyone is true; try him, then if he is of Earthmaker, you can know it. Many false prophets (371) have gone here onto this earth.
2. He that says that Earthmaker is there [is righteous],
3. and as many spirits as there are that doubt that Earthmaker's son lived in the flesh, (373) to think this is it, are not of Earthmaker. There isn't anyone other than Earthmaker's son that will come. What you heard of [otherwise] is already on earth now.

1 John
Chapter 4
1. Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of Antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
Commentary. This Hōcąk rendering of 1 John 4:1-3 is not a simple translation, but carries with it an interpretation. It uses expressions of the old religion, like "as many spirits as there are," and refers to God as "Earthmaker." It does not mention the Antichrist.
