Version 1. There are four who sit at the corners of the world, who blow life upon us in the wind of their speech. The last of these abides Where the Sun Straightens. He is the youngest and smallest of the Island Weights, yet it is he who controls the greatest measure of Life and who is the most renowned. He dwells under the canopy of the perfect day where no darkness can overstride him nor any ill wind rush upon him.
When he set out for the Creation Lodge of the Medicine Rite, he was arrayed with the nimbus of Life and Light bestowed upon him from the hand of Earthmaker himself. Four steps he took, and in those steps he traversed all the space before him and stood at the door of the Medicine Lodge. He entered and strode right to the end of the lodge. All about him was illuminated. He turned right and walked a perfect circle within the lodge back to his starting point in the south. As he traversed this arc, his luminence became more and more wondrous to behold, a beauty never before seen on this earth. All his light suffused throughout the lodge, and Hare as he sat there rejoiced in his heart for the founding of his Rite. [1]
Version 2. The Island Anchor of the South on the fourth night strongly fixed his mind on the Creation Lodge of the Medicine Rite and sent it down here. Those who seek life will in like manner concentrate their mind upon the initiate when the time comes.
When South walked towards the Creation Lodge, he wrapped himself in all the spiritual powers that Earthmaker had bestowed upon him. Indeed, these very powers became his body. He entered the Lodge and started down the Road. As he walked, even as great as the Light and Life had been hitherto, now it was greater still, making the Lodge sparkle with its light. [2]
